Dreaming with a DIGI Cam

I have always tapped in my creative side since I was little; painting, drawing, singing, playing instruments, etc.

They never fully stuck around me though, until I found my mom's digital camera. I started using it, fell in love and begged for me to have another camera, but my previous track record didn't help in convincing my parents that I was serious in photography.

How was I able to prove that I wanted a camera that badly? I started taking that digital camera everywhere and would show my parents my photos that I took.

A few years after using it, it finally happened. Christmas 2019, I was gifted the Nikon D3500 with a 18mm-55mm lens. Gracias mami y papi, los amo.

THE PASSION FADED

I started using my new camera so much since around the time, COVID came, and we were all stuck at home. From my time in quarentine until after I graduated college, I pretty much took pictures everywhere and had some creative photoshoots with a couple of friends. Things started shiftig around my time in college, and I put down photography for a very long time, almost two years to be exact. Every now and then, I would use my camera, but the same passion that I had faded away once I started hearing people say that it's not a sustainable career to have, or it should just stay as a side hustle or a hobby. I started to lose interest and almost lost myself from believing those words. Something inside of me knew that it wasn't true though, and things started shifting in March 2023.

I HAVE THE SPARKS

After 4 years I invested in new equipment, and it felt like a new start for me. I shot for a youth camp in March 2023 with my new equipment, and the spark came back. I felt my creative side coming back alive. It felt like I had a new spark though, one that has been with me to continue my passion with photography. After that, my life shifted. I started to get to know more about my camera, I started to get to know others in the Houston photography community, worked on different niches, I got to meet my boyfriend who has taught me a lot in this field, and from all of this, I have grown a lot as a photographer.

Where I'm at Now

Once my spark came back, not only did I start re-exploring my journey in photography, but I also started working on videography and social media production. Now I am a freelance photographer, videographer, and have worked as public relations director for a youth non-profit organization. My journey has just begun in freelance, but I've had so many new experiences, and I am excited to continue growing and just keep creating. That is my drive to continue every day, the opportunity to keep being a creative.
